Dan McKie - Sharpe Mafia Remix Competition
Winner: Lee Buxton aka Filthy Biscuit (UK)
LISTEN AGAIN
Originally from Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, Lee has been a professional DJ for over 16 years. Starting off in clubland during 1991's 'the summer of love' rave scene playing a vast selection of club music from garage (US) & house through to techno and full-on hardcore. Early musical influences include acid house, hip-hop, Chicago house, Detroit & Belgian techno, Italian piano house and even hip-house. Over the years, Lee has worked with many dj's including DJ SS, Fergie, Farley ' Jackmaster' Funk, Pete Gooding, Dave Pearce, Darren Tate (aka Jurgen Vries), Danny Slade, Rob Tissera, Paul Taylor, John Da Silva, John Kelly, Artful Dodger, DJ Luck and MC Neat plus many others.
Lee has worked clubs in various towns and cities including Bristol, Manchester, Oxford, London, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Swansea, Reading and Swindon. During his time in Bristol, Lee was invited to perform various live guest mixes on Galaxy 101 FM and Vibe 101. In 2002, Lee was unknowingly entered into the Stoke-on-Trent "Smirnoff/Archers DJ of the Year 2002" competition by a well-meaning friend. After his initial surprise, he went on to beat 71 other dj's (including local superclub 'Golden' residents) to take the title and the cash-money prize. In 2006, Lee collected an award as part of Luminar Leisure's 'Entertainment Team of the Year 2006' for the Park End nightclub in Oxford after spending two years there as the main-room resident.
Lee has dabbled in music production for some time. Before buying his first PC he made tracks on his playstation, three of which were given air-play on Galaxy FM. Previous to winning this competition, the closest he had ever come to getting anything signed was his Arctic Monkeys sampling drum'n'bass bootleg 'When the Bass Goes Down' which was played on BBC Radio One. DMC wanted to sign it but, unfortunately, Domino Records refused to give permission to use the sample.
Currently a full-time student studying towards a degree in Sound Technology and Digital Music at Oxford Brookes University, he also holds a four-night residency at Oceana nightclub in Birmingham playing varying styles of music. His latest musical alter-ego is 'Filthy Biscuit' and you can find him online at myspace.com/filthybiscuitmusic and also at myspace.com/leebuxton.
"I am obviously over-the-moon with winning this competition and getting my first ever actual release! I'd like to extend many millions of thanks to everyone who voted for my mix and also Dan McKie at 1980 Recordings along with DMC for giving myself and others this opportunity. It was a pleasure to remix this track as I felt the original riff was quite an infectious hook-line exuding boundless energy."

1980 Recordings Remix Competition
Winner: Herman Simpson (Norway)
LISTEN AGAIN
Herman
Simpson is a 22 year old producer from Norway. He has always been a big fan
of music in general and has a passion for the electronic genre. At the start
of middle school, he developed an interest in music production and soon noticed
that it was something he enjoyed and had a talent for. Back then, his main
influences were trance and hardhouse from which his creativity developed,
but as the years passed, his influences swayed more towards house. The
DMC / 1980 Records remix competition will be his first released production.
Herman's house productions mainly go under the subgenres synth, disco, retro, latino, funky and uplifting house. Lately, he's been experimenting with his love for the sound of dirty house and combining this with twists of electro. 2007 is proving to be an exciting year for him. Not only has he won this competition but he has also made various contacts within the house scene and has some intersting projects in the pipeline. Check out his website www.hermansimpson.com for more details.
"I would like to say thanks to all the people that voted for my remix. Big thanks to DMC and 1980 Recordings for the arrange of this competition, DMC is a great place for unknown producers to show themselves off. The other 2 entries that made it into the voting stages were also great productions, so it will surprise me if that's the last thing we'll hear from them."
Look out for the 'Digital Filth - Do You Understand' release. Also drop into www.hermansimpson.com. It's currently under construction, but you can also visit www.myspace.com/hermansimpson
"I'm really happy about winning this one. Best regards to everyone, and thanks again for all the votes."

Dj Reska is a relatively unknown french producer and remixer even if he's been working for several years for many Hip Hop and Metal bands.
He started mixing and scratching Vinyl since 1996 when he met the Double H Dj Crew with the famous Dj Cut Killer from who he learned most of his techniques by following him at his DJ sets.
Since this connection, he decided to work hard on his turntables and started producing Hip Hop beats and House. Through all these years he designed his style as well as many beats. Now looking for distribution labels who give interest in many styles : Hip Hop, Trip Hop, Electro and House, searching for the best way to make his work spread to the masses.
He worked at ADO FM in 1997, a reknown french Hip Hop and R n B radio as a Hip Hop DJ.
Based on grimey yet groovy beats, Reska's core work is very moody, dark and raw but as versatile artist he can create bouncy tunes with evolving and detailed melodies by sampling but also combining this with acoustic instruments to give a real vibe to his sound. Recording musicians with several influences as Oriental, Disco or Classic. The result is a wide range from Ambient, Abstract, Hip Hop Funk or "Storytelling" Hip Hop to Dance Hall, Ragga or even House music.
For example Radio Nova chose two of his productions "What's Yo do rap" and "Mafia" which you can hear (see the Podcast) from "Homeradio" on novaplanet.com.
After Perky and Ashman - Good Lovin' remix which won the DMC Born to Dance remix competition he's working for an up and coming Electro Metal remix for INTERRIA, a brand new french Metal Band (see the official website) think Evanescence.
He also finalise his first album with D. Proz, french rapper featuring on some of the productions. It's not a simple succession of Rap titles but a complete journey in sound with indeffinissable music style.
"This was my first competition and I'm so glad to be the winner, because I've been working as a sound technician for twelve years and beside my participation to several CDs as a Dj, it's the first time that my own work is rewarded. So it's a great pleasure and I'd like to thank everyone who has voted for me including especially my whole family who supported me as far as I can remember.
I'd like to thank the DMC who gave me the turntablism passion, since I was a teenager and this opportunity, as the Born To Dance Crew who gave me my chance.
I would say "See Ya Everybody", keep an eye for the forthcoming official website djreska.com. I love ya. "

After that I moved to Leeds for a year and then to Barcelona where I ended
up staying for 6 years playing at parties and bars. There
I started to really get into the production side of things, learning the

I've started a new monthly night here where I play progressive house and
breaks. I also play breaks at London's Rocksteady. I love music with

Stress Remix Competition

Phil
Jay

Phil Jay remixed Full Intention 'America (I Love America)' and has won himself a fantastic pair of Technics SL-DZ1200 CD decks supplied by Panasonic UK/Technics UK.
We will also be featuring his remix on a DMC DJ Only release, and will be considering releasing the track over the internet.
"My
name is Phil Forsythe recording under Phil Jay I'm 28 and from Belfast N.Ireland.
I've been djing for around 10 years playing soulful/classic/funky/tough house. In 2001 with a residency spot in the students union at University of Ulster in Coleraine I played warm up sets for Col Hamilton, Lisa Pin Up and Johan Gielan. From then I moved to a bar in Ballynahinch in Northern Ireland called McNulty's putting on funky house nights in summer 2004.
Over the last 2/3 years I've been playing at Thompsons in Belfast at a night called Hustle, a night set aside for new talent in Northern Ireland which has proved a big success.
I recently got some production equipment in Oct 2005 trying to add an extra dimension to my sets, & for sending out demos to local radio stations/labels etc. I've been getting to grips with it recently & am now at a stage where I feel confident enough to enter compitions like this one with out worrying about making a fool of myself!!
Hopefully I would like to continue in both djing & production avenues, a lot of hard work ahead but its hard to call it work when you enjoy it so much. I have also been doing a bit of research into putting together a record label - initially it was just to release my own stuff & that of a few mates - to see how far we get. Winning the competition is fantastic - I though it would be one of those things you always hear of someone else winning, but it has given me more confidence to get out there doing more of what I love."
